Today, I am coming at ya with a little DIY project! I decided, our nightstands needed a little upgrade and I wanted the makeover to be fast and cheap. Those are my favorite type of DIY’s. We have had these nightstands for almost 10 years and they have served us well in their current state, they just need a little facelift. As you can see in the before picture, they are fine but a little dated and worn.
I started by applying a good coat of primer. I have used THIS primer for years and years and it has never let me down. Also, one thing to mention, I HATE, and I repeat HATE, sanding with a passion. I would rather paint 5 coats of primer, than sand for even a half hour. So, with that being said, a lot of my DIY painting projects will not have a sanding step simply because I hate doing it. Technically, I probably should have sanded first.
Next, I mixed in THIS PRODUCT. It is a powder that mixes in with the paint and helps the paint adhere better to whatever being painted. I also used this when I painted the linoleum floor in our bathroom with a stencil design and it worked perfectly. I painted 2 good solid coats and did a smaller 3rd coat in certain areas that needed more paint.
After that, I added THESE knobs, to freshen up the hardware and BAM! Brand new looking nightstands for about $20. The color I chose was Pittsburgh brand and the color is Napoleon. And it took only 2 sample pots.
I thought I would share, just in case you are in the market to update some furniture.
XOXO,
Krisa
