Hello friends! Today is super exciting! I am doing a mini fall décor home tour. One of my favorite things to do is to decorate our house with a frugal mindset and a cheap budget in mind. Currently, we are knocking out our student loans at an extremely rapid pace so we are not spending extra money on non-necessity items. We decided at the beginning of this process we each get $100 of “fun money” each month to spend on any non-necessity items we would like that month. Most of the time my “fun money” goes towards organizational items or home décor. I would say 85% of our fall décor is one of the following:
1. Purchased during previous years after season sales (70%-80% off)
2. Hand-me-downs from family members
3. Homemade
4. Purchased with a coupon
5. From the Target dollar spot section
Fall is by far my favorite time of the year! Yes, I am definitely one of those people that go to Starbucks to get a PSL (Pumpkin Spice Latte) on the very first day. I have such wonderful memories riding with my dad and grandpa in the tractor or combine in the evenings during harvest. Everything seems to get cozier this time of year and I love it! While trying to decorate a new space or for a new season I always have one piece of advice in the back on my mind from the decorating genius Nate Berkus. “A space should look like it has been decorated over time.” That piece of advice was a huge game changer for me! Constantly I would have in my mind a specific room or space that I thought had to be furnished or decorated all at once and would instantly get discouraged if that didn’t happen. Now, when I head out to find some pieces, I have a few areas or things in mind that I would like to get. However, sometimes I end up going in a completely different direction and get none of the things I wanted. It is ok for a space to only be partially furnished or decorated. This has been a hard thing for my Type A personality to accept! I find that if I fill a space over time with pieces that I absolutely love and adore I end up loving the space so much more. There ya have it! I hope you have enjoyed a little sneak peek into our warm, cozy, fall home!
Side note: I forgot to turn off the TV before taking this picture, I was watching “The Kitchen” on the Food Network channel. I love that show!
